Finland’s new Ambassador to Lebanon presents credentials to the President Aoun

Ambassador of the Republic of Finland Ms Tarja Fernández presented her Letter of Credentials to the President of the Republic of Lebanon, His Excellency General Michel Aoun on 13 September 2018. Finland and Lebanon established their diplomatic relations in 1954.

Ambassador Fernandez expressed feeling honoured to represent Finland in Lebanon. She also told President Aoun that she will work to promote the interests of both counties, particularly in terms of strengthening trade and cultural relations.

Finland is committed to strengthening peace and stability in the region, of which the Finnish commitment to the UNIFIL peace keeping mission is a concrete example. Finland also supports Lebanon to respond to the refugee crisis through international organizations such as UNHCR and WFP.

Ms Fernández entered the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1994. Before coming to Lebanon, she served as the Ambassador of Finland to Kenya, from where she also covered Somalia, Eritrea, Seychelles, and Uganda. She also served as the permanent representative of UN Office in Nairobi (UNON). She has previously worked as the Director of the Unit for European Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), as well as in various other positions within the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland as well as Finnish Embassies abroad.
